Every April, we celebrate Earth Day. How we celebrate has changed, though, since it was founded in 1970.
The first Earth Day focused on organized rallies and educating people about the importance of caring for our environment. The impact was huge and in the following years, major legislation was passed to make environmental policy a priority, including the:
- Clean Air Act
- Water Quality Improvement Act
- Endangered Species Act
- Toxic Substances Control Act
- Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act
52 years later, over 1 billion people take part in celebrating and recognizing Earth Day.
Ready to get more involved? Here are a few simple ways our team and Wellness Experts like to celebrate Earth Day, in April, and every day!
1% FOR THE PLANET.
Lazy Acres is proud to invest 1% of participating Lazy Acres Private Label item sales to our 1% for the Planet Non-profit Partners. From April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, we’re donating proceeds to Grades of Green, the Rob Macha Foundation, and Balboa Park Conservancy.
SHOP SUSTAINABLE & EARTH FRIENDLY BRANDS.
Our Wellness Experts thoughtfully curate the best selection of sustainable and earth-friendly brands to make it easy for you to shop with confidence knowing we’ve selected the best brands and options for you. Some of our trusted brands include ACURE, Dr. Bronner’s, and The Humble Co. They make our list because of their dedication to going above and beyond to support our planet. For example, did you know that ACURE is dedicated to operating a Terracycle program? It makes their skincare line twice as delightful, supporting a great cause by purchasing an awesome product.
CLEAN UP YOUR BEACH.
Every Lazy Acres Market serves a beach community, so this is close to our hearts! You can get involved by connecting with your local Chamber of Commerce. Or check your local Facebook page or connect with a community group through your favorite local coffee shop to find out when your community members host ongoing beach clean-up days. It’s a great way to get outside, connect with others, and help show our beautiful environment some love.
PLANT NATIVE PLANTS AND WILDFLOWERS.
Many plants are not native to our coastal desert region and while they can look very attractive, they don’t support the overall ecosystem. Planting native species attracts and supports pollinators. Choosing native species also creates more harmony and health in our local ecosystem, impacting birds, animals, and other insects that rely on these plants. Plants and wildflowers native to Southern California save water and bring harmony to their environment. Want to learn more? Click here!
